Metro Line 4, which fully run through on March 10, is an east-west backbone line cutting through the middle of the downtown area, with a total length of 30.9 kilometers. With 25 stations, including 12 transfer stations, the line goes through Shinan District, Shibei District and Laoshan District, three densely populated main urban areas as well as 11 schools, 8 hospitals and many scenic spots. It is a "golden belt" in Qingdao rail transit network and an east-west artery and plays an important role in "connecting the lines into a network".

Line 4 connects many densely populated areas which are previously not covered by metro lines, such as Fushanhou and Hongshanpo, and its direction also coincides with several main roads with great traffic pressure in Qingdao. After opening to traffic, it can on the one hand significantly improve the travel convenience in the downtown area of Qingdao, ease the congestion of urban roads, and effectively increase the passenger volume of Qingdao's metro lines on the other hand.
